Hello!
I said I was having a chunky shoe moment! Here's another pair that I bought from Primark, they're definitely different to the other ones... for sure... I can't get enough of the chunky heels, they're really easy to walk in and I think they're a bit quirky and interesting. These are a suede effect finish and I love the strappy detail at the toe of the shoe, there's something quite delicate about it, and I think it looks really flattering. These were only £14 which I think is amazing, they look way more expensive!

What do you think of these?
Hello!
I featured these in a recent post (here) about summer shoes for people that don't like feet (toe-a-phobes as I like to say). I had bought the tan version from Primark, and then decided that I needed the black pair in my life as well.. They're the perfect basic black flat, but a little more interesting with the double ankle strap and the pointed toe. At only £10 I had to get both colours! They're wardrobe staples, right?!
Hello!
Another Shoes on a Shoestring post! There are just too many great budget shoes around at the moment..
I picked these up on newlook.com and I luuuuurve them!! I'm having a chunky heel moment, I feel (lookout for some more coming up soon). I love the simplicity of these, the matte back faux leather, the chunky heel which makes them super easy to walk in, the small platform which makes them less steep but not too OTT, the little criss-cross toe straps, the ankle strappy... And not forgetting that these were only £27.99! Not a bad price for a cute little pair of chunky heels! I just think these are so simple and chic, really effortless, whilst there's something about them that gives a subtle nod to the 90s trend. Perfect.
Hello!
Another Shoes on a Shoestring post, I love doing these because I love buying shoes! So I've been craving a pair of holographic shoes because I've been feeling super 90's recently, I have seen various pairs of chunky sandals in a holographic variety on ebay at pretty reasonable prices, but I wasn't sure what to go for so I held off ordering any. Then Primark came to my rescue with these ABSOLUTE BEAUTS at only £12!!! Who can believe it? The fact that they're flatforms adds to their holographic 90's allure, and they've got one of my favourite shoe details thrown in there as well (the ankle strappy). Too perf.
I'm also totally loving amping up the 90's a bit further, combining these with a black glittery pedi (DIY ofc) I've used Barry M polish in gold mine glitter here, but something like Topshop's gypsy night would work perfectly too.
Definitely a love hate kinda shoe.. I think we all know which side of that I fall on!

What do you think of these? Have you found any great bargains recently?
Hello!
I recently bought these low wedges from Primark because I LOVED the laser cut strap on them in this sort of cubey, geo flower design. They're a nice none offensive neutral colour (also available in coral, but not black.. Primark, get me some black ones!!) and the height of the wedge makes them perfect for daytime wear, if like me you could use the extra height! These were in the wide fit section which did make me wonder whether they'd fit, but they fit me fine (I don't have particularly narrow or wide feet) and the soles are actually really nicely cushioned! Who can say no to detail like that at only £12?

What do you think of these?
It's been a while! My third year of uni has come to an end, my dissertation is handed in, and my exams are over! This year has been a complete whirlwind, hence my absence! But here I am again! I've missed blogging a lot!
I've been doing some shopping... and I've found myself buying a lot more shoes than I used to! And I've noticed a slight trend in some of my purchases.. I may have gone a bit sandals mad!

So this blog post is actually inspired by my sister, who is a massive toe-a-phobe. She hates feet and she'd never ever wear shoes that exposed her toes. Peep toes are OUT. I myself am not particularly phased by the odd toe, but in the summer my sister is faced with a real problem. Feet and heat. Shoes can't be too closed up because it's uncomfortable when the weather gets warmer, but open toe sandals are just not an option. This inspired me to go on the hunt for some solutions, and I think I may have found them! (Even if you're not a toe-a-phobe they're pretty nice shoes..)

So the chunky platform sandals are suuuper cool, these have got to be my favourites out of all my picks. I got mine in black and white, but they are also available in various holographic colours (I have my eye on the silver ones... is three pairs of the same shoe okay? Too far?) from ebay. These are actually a really sturdy shoe, considering they come in at just under £20, they're really comfortable, and give a shorty like me a great little boost in height with the chunky sole/platform. I think these look amazing on and they compliment so many different outfits, skirts, shorts, jeans etc! They're nice and airy for the summer months so feet aren't going to overheat, but they're not so open to make your feet cold on cooler days.. A great pair of shoes for spring, summer, and even warmer autumn days, they're so versatile!

Next up I'm bundling all of the flat ankle strap sandals in together. They're all really cute, I love that they're woven to allow for some extra air to the feet and it adds interest to them as well! Again, so versatile, they all look great with shorts, trousers, mini/midi/maxi skirts, everything! And they just look so summery! I love the femininity of the ever so popular ankle strap as well! These sandals are such a great price, and they look great too!

Finally, there's the double ankle strap shoe. This is more of a shoe than a sandal, but the sides are more open than you find on a typical ballet flat, which I feel makes them more comfortable to wear in the summer, as they're not so closed around your feet. I love the pointed toe on these paired with the double ankle strap, they're just so feminine and I think would compliment a pair of mom/boyfriend jeans perfectly.

So those are my sandal buys of the summer! I'm letting myself off for being excessive with how many i bought because 1) I'm doing a blog post about them, and 2) they were so damn cheap!! I may well have a few more shoes on a shoestring posts lined up over the next week.. I'll try and infiltrate them with a few other different things as well to avoid monotony! But who can get bored of bargain shoes really?

Which are your favourites?
So a while ago in bootsI saw an offer on soap and glory products (as there often is). It could have been 1/3 off, or 3 for 2 or something to that effect! Anyway, I couldn't decide which scrub to buy, because everyone seems to love all of them! And they all smell so good! So I put a couple in my basket... and justified it by telling myself it'd make a great comparison post on my blog... So I thought I'd better actually write it, so that I haven't lied to myself completely! I'm still pretty new to Soap and Glory (please leave product recommendations below) so for people like me, here are my thoughts on a couple of their scrubs and which I'd go for...

This was the first product I ever tried from soap and glory! I bought it quite a while ago, and as you can see from the picture, I have finished it up completely (in terms of texture and how it looks, it's quite similar to the Breakfast Scrub, so see the picture of that below for reference)! I absolutely love this scrub, It's very grainy and very abrasive which I like very much, I feel like when you use a scrub you actually want it to SCRUB! This one for sure lives up to its name "flake away" as it would definitely get rid of dry skin (I don't have this much, but I imagine it would work wonders) but it doesn't leave your skin feeling dry when you get out of the shower, as contains loads of amazing ingredients like almond oil, shea butter and sea salt and is advertised as a "spa-strength" exfoliator which I think is very true. This leaves my skin nice and soft and you can really feel it working while you use it! I love the smell of this as well, it's really sweet and the only way I can describe it is as smelling of sweets haha!

I would recommend this one if you're looking for a nice tough exfoliant, and even better it comes in a large sub, or a smaller one which is perfect for travel, or if you just want to try it out before committing! Personally I wouldn't use this every day, as I think it could be a little too abrasive to use so often, but it's a great once a week scrub, or great for getting rid of all traces of fake tan, or prepping for fake tan too, because it leaves you with a completely fresh base.

Sugar Crush:

In the pot this one has a way more gloopy consistency than flake away, as flake away was far harder. Although this ones still isn't completely liquidy like a shower gel or anything, just not as hard as flake away. This one is definitely less grainy and less abrasive than flake away as well, there doesn't seem to be as many exfoliating grains (oh god the science) packed into it, which I think makes it a better daily exfoliant. My skin actually felt quite moisturised after using this because of the almond oil, and it still felt soft and fesh, despite not having been buffed quite so hard haha! This one smells absolutely amazing as well, like sweet lime and a bit coconutty? When I smell this I always think it's what it would smell like if you were in some tropical exotic jungly location using one of those outdoor bamboo showers, well this is what it'd smell like. Fresh, fruity and sweet.

I'd recommend this one if you're looking for a milder exfoliator to be used a couple of times a week, it's not too abrasive so if you're skin's a bit more sensitive this might be a better one to go for? But I would probably say you need something a bit harsher if you're prepping for fake tan or looking to get rid of it, or if you want a really good body buff to blast dry skin, this one might not be grainy enough.

I had the highest hopes for this one, because it has some great ingredients; babassu oil and jojoba seed for moisturising, and sea salt for some super exfoliating, but I found myself feeling a bit left down by this one. When you open it up it looks to have mini pink micro exfoliation beads, and chunks of sea salt, so I expected this one to be super scrubby (I really like it when scrubs are really abrasive) but it wasn't at all. I felt like it barely exfoliated my skin and actually left a bit of a residue on it which made shaving afterwards a bit difficult. The smell of this one is quite nice, but definitely not as amazing as the others. It's sweet but mild, and a smell that I think would be quite nice in hair products actually haha! I can't describe the scent though, it's a tricky one! Nice but not overpowering, so maybe good for people who find the scents of the others too overpowering.

I probably wouldn't recommend this one as all to be honest, as I don't think it works as a scrub and leaves a bit of an annoying film over the skin, so I probably won't be finishing mine off and just throwing it away. The good news is that this also comes in a travel size which is the one I got to try, so I'm not wasting too much money!

Back onto the positive! Another scrub that I really like! This one is like a stage in between Flake Away and Sugar Crush, it's more packed with grains that Sugar Crush, but not quite as grainy as Flake Away, so this one's like a "medium" exfoliator between the two. Again packed with great ingredients, shea butter, oat, banana, almond, honey, and "cupuacu bio scrubs" which sound very fancy! I don't know what they are, but they definitely work! I think this one has a nice moderate amount of scrub, it's not too harsh, but it definitely still gets the job done! Again, my skin is nice and soft after using this and doesn't feel stripped or over scrubbed. The smell of this is so cool, it literally smells like a bottle of maple syrup, it's so authentic! It's absolutely gorgeous, and quite a break away from the more sugary fruity smells of the other scrubs. And it doesn't leave any weird residues (scrub 'em and leave 'em is the only one that does in my experience).

I would recommend this for people wanting something to use probably around twice a week, something that's pretty abrasive but not too harsh, and just keeps their skin feeling soft and smooth.

So there's my run down! I will definitely be repurchasing Flake Away, and Sugar Crush and the Breakfast Scrub when I run out of them! You probably don't need to own all 3, but I'm a bit out of control and really like all 3 of them, so why not?!

Have you tried any of these? Which would you buy?

So... it's been a while! I might do a whole other post on that over the next few days, but for the time being, I'm sorry it's been so long! Now let's get down to business, I have been doing some buying. More precisely, some budget shoe buying. I am actually quite good at buying, it's almost as if I think I have money to spend... Whatever!

So I think this whole trend started last winter sort of time? Coming into Spring around the beginning of this year, cut-out boots were just massive! The only problem was, that the only place I knew of to get them from was Topshop, and they were charging around £80 a piece, which although I really loved the boots, was completely out of my price range! Anyway, they were with us all through the summer, still, only available at Topshop as far as I was aware, and still to expensive for me, but oh my GOD did I want a pair! Well, last week a got one of the usual subscription emails from New Look about various different trends and pieces they had etc, when I spotted something in one of the pictured outfits. Cut. Out. Boots. And nice ones! I have seen a few other pairs filtering through the highstreet, but I didnt like the placements of the cut outs, or the buckles or something! Anyway, I immediately went on the New Look website, found the boots and ordered them (along with one or two other things...)

Here they are!

Black Chunky Cut Out Buckle Ankle Boots - £29.99 New Look

So what I love about these is that I think the placing of the cut-outs and the buckles are really complimentary, I don't know what it is but it just looks GOOD. I love the chunkiness and industrial-ness of the buckles, I feel like they're really heavy duty but the gold hardwear gives them quite an urban feel. I also loooooohve the soles on these, so thick and chunky! They just compliment the whole shoe perfectly! And the best part? They're less than half the price of the Topshop ones! There's something about these that really remind me of my clumpy 90's school shoes from Clarks, only with the cool upgrade of big buckles and cut-outs!

I haven't put up any outfit pictures with these because I have them due to feature in a OOTD post, but I think these go so well with so many things! Personally I don't think you can go wrong with a bit of grunge, and I think they're the perfect grungy juxtaposition to a more feminine outfit, with some chiffons and other soft fabrics. These compliment midi skirts so perfectly too, I always think people look so cool when I see them out wearing a combo like that!

So if you've been lusting after a pair of grungy cut-out boots I'd have a look at New Look! They were pretty well stocked when I ordered mine on Friday, and they arrived on Monday!

Have you got a pair of boots like these? What would you wear them with?
It's been a while since I did a shoes on a shoestring post, you can find the last one here! Today I've got a slightly more summery offering, and a version of the shoe of the moment, it's everyone's favourite, the ankle strap heel. On the high street it all started with Zara I think, with their plain black version and there have been many variations since. The trend has finally filtered on down into Primark, which is where I found these!
For me, these shoes look so elegant and expensive with every variation I see, whether they're shade, imitation leather, double strap, single, nude, tan... They're so classic, I absolutely love them! This pair are no exception, and I think they capture this summer's monochrome trend perfectly. They go with pretty much anything, skirts, dresses, shorts, pants... And I think they look über stylish and soooo chic.
I actually wore these to Matt's graduation! Hence the picture, I didn't get one on my own so you'll have to put up with one of us together haha! Sorry! I think they're just so appropriate for so many different occasions, smart, formal, going to lunch or out to dinner, going on a night out, to a bar, to a meeting, to a special occasion. They're just so versatile and can be styled so many different ways for so many different occasions! I love them! What a great buy, at only £12 for a pair of all-rounders!
Yes everybody, give me a clap for finally sitting down and writing some content! Haha! Apart from doing that, I have also been shopping. All in the name of bringing you this post of course! It's sale season again, which makes me very happy! But does anyone else HATE trawling through the topshop sale? I always enter with such highs hopes of finding some absolute gems for next to nothing, but I always get disillusioned when I see the state and size of the sale area, a huge row of racks crammed full with garments stuffed on in no order at all, and all the aisles of full of frantic women. No thanks. Haha! But I have managed to pick up some things, some are sale finds, and some are just bargains even at full price!
So I had actually seen Barbara from thepersianbabe with a blazer in the same pattern as these dungarees and absolutely fallen in love, but it was quite expensive and then I found these in the sale, they're just different and I love the pattern on them, I'm mad for anything paisley! And the eyeshadow trios I have wanted for seriously so long, it must be nearly a year ago now that the dark side of the nude collection came out, but I just really couldn't justify £16 each for the trios, I did come close to buying them on a number of occasions but backed out and oh man am I glad that I did now! Atmosphere was a little harder to get hold of, it's not available online anymore, but I managed to find it in the manchester arndale store on the top floor near the tills, little heads up for anyone in the area ;).

The rest were just sort of see-it-want-it finds really but I could not be happier to have found this shirt, it really is so gorgeous in real life! I'm not sure it's summer appropriate, but I have absolutely no problem buying now and waiting a few more months before cracking it out! It's absolutely prefect for autumn, and that collar is going to look great peeking out from under some jumpers!

So that's what I've been buying! Have you picked up any bargains recently?

Hola! I've been seriously loving the nice weather we've been having this week! Hopefully the UK will manage to keep this up for more than a few days and we'll get a whole summer like this! Yeah, I'm not holding my breath either, but I'm not giving up hope! Something I always do, and please tell me that some others of you do this too, is get serious envy over the girls in those pictures that I love so much on tumblr, they're tanned, they're skinny, by the looks of things they're having a great time, the sun is shining, they have amazing beachy hair and are ridiculously pretty, and they ALWAYS have the best shorts on! These my friends, are what I call tumblr shorts. I love tumblr shorts, and I have wanted some since I first started reblogging a few years ago. Here are some examples:

So I can't help you with all of the above (possibly the beachy hair though in a coming post) but something I HAVE been doing, is searching for some tumblr shorts. And I actually have some findings that I'm rather pleased with and thought I'd share with you! Because you don't have to spend £50 on a pair of overpriced vintage Levis cut-offs!

I'm telling you, this seems to be a good year for buying shorts! What do you think? And they're all so reasonable! So my wardrobe is in the middle of a location crisis, as apparently I seem to think I live in Australia with all of these denim cut-offs, I can totally wear them all with tights if the temperature doesn't stay up though, right...? I was thinking of doing a 'how I wear' post with these, so keep an eye out for that. I also want to put it out there that I think boohoo.com have totally knocked the denim cut-offs out of the park, and at pretty great prices! I would say to size up (maybe order your size, the size up, and one up from that, with free postage over £35 usually, and free returns, there's no reason not to!) as I found the sizes to run a little small, I'm usually a 6/25W and had a panic when I couldn't fit any of the 6s over the tops of my legs, but it made me feel a little better that my teeny size 4 skinny ass sister couldn't either haha!!

There's just about a denim wash in there for everybody, so let me know which are your favourites! Have you found a good pair of tumblr shorts I should know about?

So first off, an apology for my absence, my exams are now over, and I am very excited to be able to get back to blogging! I have a few posts planned that I'm looking forward to doing! But I'm sorry things have been moving a little slowly on here recently and I haven't been posting regularly, work sux...

Anyway! On to what I wanted to talk about today... So over the weekend, John Lewis have had one of their 10% price match events that I love so much! I did intend to avoid this one, as my bank balance was lacking a little (although obviously not enough to stop me in the end) but of course I just couldn't stay away from their beauty hall, so here's what I bought!

Clarins liquid bronze self tanning for face and décolletage, clarins instant smooth self tanning makeup base, bobbi brown limited edition face and body bronzing duo, and chanel soleil tan de chanel sheer illuminating fluid in sunkissed.

So.... Avoiding went well.... And does anybody detect a bit of a theme to my purchases? I'm seriously the palest person ever but I am determined that this summer I am not going to hide in the shadows, trying not to dazzle people with my milk bottle complexion, I WILL BE A BRONZED CALIFORNIAN BEACH GODESS!! I just really want me some bronzing, so I went into John Lewis to pick up some ammo. I think I'm pretty much ready for action with that lot!

And as if that wasn't enough bronze for someone as pale as me, the new bourjois bronze collection was released in boots and of course I needed to go and indulge...

Bourjois bronzing primer, bourjois b&b bronzing cream.

So that's my little haul, some high end, and some high street, all of it a lovely shade of bronze (hopefully what I'll be when I use it all!) there has been a powder released with the bourjois range too, but I didn't feel like I needed it (lol I'm totally rational, like I needed any of these things?!) but I have a couple of bronzing powders already so it just didn't seem like something I needed to add to my collection, whereas the other items were a bit different to things I already have.. A heads up to those interested as well, the new bourjois range currently has £3 off each product in Boots, so go out and grab them while they're only £6.99 each! I would also like to tell Chanel, that I would appreciate them bringing out the sheer illuminating fluids in a variety of colours, because I want more! Give me some opal, and pearly pink and peach tones. I'll seriously buy them all. Will my love for highlighters ever end? I doubt it... Wish me luck with my hunt for a bronzey summer glow, and pale girls, I'll be getting back soon with how all of these work for us :)

So I've been road testing another item from my ridiculous foundation collection (post here) for a while now, and thought it was about time I let you know how I've been getting on with it! As you know, I like to give something a good solid test before I write anything about it on my blog, because I don't want to tell people things about it without really knowing it inside out!

I wrote about this in the first post (Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum) but I'll say it again just for reference, I have combination skin, with mostly normal skin, but some slightly oily areas, and some drier areas in winter too, and my foundation preference is a dewy finish with not too heavy coverage, I like to look as natural as possible!
The shimmer running through the foundation is just visible here.

Down to the nitty-gritty, the wake me up foundation is described as anti-fatigue effect and giving a flawless, natural looking, glowy finish. I found this to be a light coverage foundation (it can be built up a bit, but I'd say only to a lowish medium), it blurs the appearance of blemishes, but doesn't cover them on its own, but means that it does live up to its promise of natural looking skin, which is a big must for me, so we're off to a good start! I did find that the dewy finish on this did leave it a little tacky (not very much, but worth bringing up all the same) and it never completely dried down. I do prefer a foundation that's not tacky, but this was only a little, and I can deal with it if it gives me the glow I'm after! I have the lightest shade of this, which is 100 Ivory, I'd say that I detect pink undertones, which works fine with my skintone, but the shade was a smidge too dark for me (not too much of a problem as it's a light coverage, but had it been heavier I don't think I could have got away with it). I tend to find that if I build it up on my face very slowly, putting a very small amount on at a time it matches me better, rather than putting big blobs on everywhere and blending. It also seems that it only looks a little too dark in the morning when I first put it on my face, and it settles down after that to a near perfect match! There is also an SPF of 15 in this one, which is great because it cuts out a sun protection step when you're getting ready (which I'm too lazy to bother with anyway) but it does make it a little risque for a night out if you're going to be using flash photography!
Well I didn't like wearing it with only moisturiser underneath and no primer, I found it looked quite cakey, the glitter particles were visible and it was a little streaky! It works far better with a primer, and didn't look cakey at all. When I used a radiance primer underneath (the Lily Cole for Body Shop one) I did find that I could still see glitter particles on my face and my pores were more visible. I found that the best combination for me was with the Benefit That Gal primer underneath, and the Bourjois Healthy Balance powder in 52 dusted over my nose and chin (I found the foundation to wear off in those places without the powder because those are my oil-prone spots). With this combination I found the foundation to last all day (around 8+ hours?) with a lovely, healthy radiance and minimum sparkles showing through, win! I've found that I'm really happy with the way that the foundation looks at the end of the day, my skin looks really healthy with a sort of glowing, flawless radiance! Exactly what I'm looking for! So that's how I'd recommend wearing this, with a brightening NOT radiant primer, and powdering areas prone to oiliness! I also didn't find that this particularly emphasized any dry patches that I had!
I've been in the midst of quite a bit of work at the moment, as it's coming to crunch time and my exams are fast approaching, but among all of this, I woke up this morning and just wanted to paint my nails - I almost never allow myself the time to do this during term time because I've just got too much work to do!! So I thought I'd do a blog post about it at the same time!!
I had a couple of the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shines that I wanted to try out too, as I hadn't used them yet, so I decided to throw in a few accent nails in complimenting pastel shades (Blueberry and Prickly Pear) All in all I'm quite pleased with the results!! All of my nails just took 2 coats and they're pretty much opaque, and they were touch-dry quite fast, which is a massive bonus!
The Gelly Hi-Shines are definitely living up to their expectations and are very glossy without a topcoat, and I really love the texture effect polish, I can't stop running my fingers over it to feel it haha! It has a grainy texture, almost like sand mixed in there, and I think it has a really cool effect on the nails. The pastel shades that they've released in the collection are absolutely perfect because they make your nails look polished (lolgeddit) with the pretty colours, but with an unexpected quirky twist, which is something that I really like.

So overall I'd definitely recommend any of these polishes! It still baffles me as to why people would go out and spend great amounts of money on nail polishes, Barry M are such great polishes, and if they have the right shade for you, GET IT!! They're so cheap but really good quality!

Do you have any of these polishes? What do you think of them?
I had seen boots in they style in quite a few of Sammi's videos on youtube, and I really liked them. Hers were from Missguided and cost around £45, which I didn't really want to pay, so I felt like I'd struck gold a few weeks ago when I was browsing Chockers and saw these reduced to £20!! It's a really great site in general for discounted shoes, and I have a few more posts lined up featuring their shoes!! They're really comfortable to wear, and great for this time of the year with all the turbulent weather we're having in the UK!
So this is the outfit that I wore them with yesterday, I was just going to meet a friend for coffee and to go (window) shopping for a bit! The dress is a bit dressy and actually has embroidery (hidden by my hair here) all around the neckline, so I dressed it down a bit with the really slouchy, oversized cardigan. I thought all the colours tied in well together, with the gold from the shoes and jewellery, and the neckline embroidery, which was complemented nicely by the khaki.

What would you wear these with?
So I've been hoarding up empties for quite some time now, so that I have enough to warrant me doing a post on them!

So first of all is facewipes, I used to always keep a pack in my skincare stash just in case I needed them, because I don't really like to use them for taking my makeup off regularly because they're not the best for your skin, but I've banned myself from buying them now, because it turned into me being really lazy and just using them every night, so this way I'm forced to take my makeup off properly! haha! Basically I hated the Vitamin E ones, they really irritated my eyes, the avocado ones were alright, and the botanics ones were the best, and these are the ones I'd go to repurchase if I was allowed, I actually like these better than the simple wipes, and there's usually an offer on them in boots!

I then got this bottle of micellaire water, because everyone's been hyping up Bioderma, but I'm not prepared to pay the hefty UK price tag for it, so I bought this alternative from UNE. This was okay, but I would repurchase it. It wasn't horrible, but it just didn't wow me like other people have been wowwed by this sort of product, maybe that effect is exclusive to Bioderma, so hopefully I'll be making a trip to France sooner rather than later...
I also finished up this Botanics 100% Organic Rosewater Toning Spritz. I really liked this, and bought one to keep at Matt's as well! The only problem I had with this was when it was coming into the Winter months I did find this to dry my skin out quite a bit, so I haven't repurchased it just yet, but I definitely will be doing in the summer! I really liked being able to just quickly spritz this over my face, it's so easy!

And finally, I finished up my Vaseline Healthy Hand and Nail Conditioning Hand Lotion, I really like this hand lotion, I've repurchased it a few times, and it was actually the first hand cream that I ever tried, back when I was 14! I won't be repurchasing this again at the moment, because I have a very healthy stock of hand creams waiting to be used up, but I would get it again in the future!

What have you been using up recently? If you've tried any of these things, what did you think of them?
So it's been a while since my last shoes on a shoestring post and I'm quite aware that I bought this pair of shoes a while back, so I need to get it up before they go out of stock and people can't get them anymore! But I went into Primark the other day and actually saw that these were in the sale, so when better to post about them?!
ombré jumper warehouse, pu panelled leggings H&M.

Isn't it annoying when you go into a shop and see something that you've already bought that's now been reduced! Ah well! These are quite a simple black ankle boot, with a flat heel, and they have a cool little spiked detail over the toe, and around the top. I'm really loving the spikes and studs trend, and have been for quite a while, but honestly, who hasn't? I'd love to wear these with a black midi skirt and a leather jacket, I think they'd look sooo cool, but unfortunately, being only 5ft2, I don't have the long legs required to do that, and it'd make me look very stumpy! But I do really like pairing them with these pu panelled leggings from H&M and a jumper. I actually wore this outfit a couple of weeks ago when I went for drinks with a couple of people and I quite liked it, so thought I'd recreate it for the post!
I definitely feel like these shoes give some sort of edge to an outfit, and damn it, I love me some edge! And I really think these would go great with some girlier outfits to have that sort of toughening up effect! These are also great for these rainier/ weird weather months in the UK, because they'll do a good job of keeping your feet dry, but aren't the type of material to ruin either! So hopefully you'll still be able to find these in your local Primark in the sale!

What would you wear these with?
Eleanor xPorcelain Eleanorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05822974228910627172noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3340889831508927142.post-20902758759009004312013-03-11T17:16:00.001-07:002013-04-19T01:44:08.106-07:00Foundation Files #1 Bourjois Healthy Mix SerumHello! Now, I've heard some very mixed reviews on this, some people seem to love it, and some haven't got on with it so well, so I'm here to add my two cents!

So I should start my laying down some ground, I have combination skin, with mostly normal skin, but some slightly oily areas, and some drier areas in winter too, and my foundation preference is a dewy finish with not too heavy coverage, I like to look as natural as possible!

So the Bourjois healthy mix serum is described as a semi-matte finish, which initially I thought would be a bit weird, how exactly is something semi-matte? Well I'll tell you how! It mattifies your face, but maintains a certain amount of luminosity and glow, which I actually think is perfect, because you get the glow without the shine or stickiness! It's also quite a light coverage, which is great for keeping your look as natural as possible, which I really like, but it definitely doesn't cover up any blemishes, it doesn't even cover up my freckles, it just has more of a blurring effect. So this foundation tends to be great when you haven't got any spots or anything in particular that needs covering up, but your complexion just needs a little pick me up, if it's looking sallow or dull this is absolutely great! To be honest I wear it even when I do have blemishes, it's nothing a little concealer can't sort out! I have the lightest shade of this (51) and it would probably be a little too dark for me if it was a heavier coverage, but I can get away with it as it's so light. The shades in the range are also definitely on the more yellow-toned side, but again, as it has such a light coverage, I haven't found that it makes too much of a difference.

I've found that this has worked best for me when I prep my face with moisturiser, skip on the primer and apply the foundation straight to my face with my fingers. I've tried it out with a multitude of different primers and brushes, but I really feel that you get the best finish with this when you apply with your fingers, and it wears longer and nicer with no primer underneath (just for reference I have been prepping my face with my Oriflame energising day cream and it works really nicely with this foundation without a primer). I found it to go a little patchy with primer, but without it lasts and wears really nicely, it doesn't oxidise and get darker throughout the day, which is a definite plus for me (I hate foundations that do that! They make me feel so self-conscious, what if my face has turned orange?!) I also found that this was better left unpowdered on my skin, as when I tried it with powder, again it went patchy and highlighted my pores after a while. But when I use it without any of that I actually find with this foundation that it looks better throughout the day to when I put it on, which can't be a bad thing! I think it's because it gets less matte as the day goes on, but by no means shiny, just really natural and dewy, and it definitely does last all day! So if you've been having problems with this one, try using it in the way I have done and you might get some better results, do let me know if you do this, I'd be interested to see if it's the same for other people!

I really like the packaging of this, the glass bottle is a plus for me, as I think it has a more expensive feel, and the pump is a massive YES because it's so much easier and far less wasteful when you're getting product out. I also really like the gel consistency of the foundation, to me it's what every liquid foundation should feel like, not too thick, but not too runny, and it's so easy to distribute and blend into your skin. It smells a little bit like suncream, I think, and I don't mind that at all, as it isn't unpleasant but doesn't last either, so you don't need to be worried about other people being able to smell it. I think it's a really nice touch that the ingredients include "vitamin-rich fruits: lychees, goji berries and pomegranate" and that it's also hypoallergenic!

So does it live up to the claims on the front of the bottle? It says that it lasts 16hrs, which I think it a bit of an overstatement, I've had it lasting reasonably well for 12 hours, although it was definitely on its last legs at that point, but I would say that in using it the way I talked about earlier it definitely maximised the amount of time that this lasted and it was quite long lasting when I used it in this way. It also promises a radiance-boosted eve, revived complexion which I would completely agree with, so that's a thumbs up from me!

I hope this is proof that it lives up to the promises of radiance, this was after I had got in from a full day of uni, wearing it all day, for at least 7 or 8 hours.

I really like this foundation and I'll definitely be repurchasing once I get through the rest of my stash (I really should use them up before I buy more!) I'd recommend this foundation if you like a glowy finish, not if you like overly matte, heavy coverage foundations. I also think it's best suited to normal/combination skin types, if you have oily skin I don't think this is enough to keep it matte all day, and I did find that I clung to my dry patches a little which highlights them, so I wouldn't recommend it to overly dry skin types either, but for anything in between it's a good'un!

Sorry that this has been quite a long one, but I feel like the more detailed these reviews are, the more helpful they are for people who are thinking of buying the product, which is my aim in writing these!
Have you tried the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, or any other Bourjois foundations? What did you think of them?
Now you may have seen, if you follow me on instagram (@porcelaineleanor - I'm very new on there, so please go and follow me!) that on Saturday night I was baking! Quite late as well, I might add! I had seen a recipe on Anna's blog for what promised to be gooey, rich and very chocolatey cookies, so I obviously had to give them a go! Here's Anna's post with the recipe, along with video instruction of how to make the cookies, I just made the little adjustment of making my 3 big bars of chocolate into 1 Terry's chocolate orange. These are meant to be a replica of the cookies at Ben's in London, which I can't personally vouch for because I've never been, it what I can say is that these are amazing! They're so soft! (Not to blow my own trumpet or anything!) my sister has actually eaten 3 of them today!
So today I am going to give you a little peek into my foundation collection, I do have quite a few, and there's a reason for this!! I only really got into wearing foundations about a year ago, before then I didn't wear them! But then I realised that my skin could only look so good, and to get the gorgeous glowing skin that I wanted, I had to find the right foundation! So basically I went hunting for loads of different foundations to try out so that I could find the perfect one, and here they all are!!
Shamefully, most of these haven't ever been used! I know, I'm terrible!! I like to give things a really good try before I make my mind up on them, and use them in different ways so I know how they work best etc, and I just carried on using the same few every day and never got around to using the others! So with that, I would like to bring a new series to Porcelain Eleanor: The Foundation Files! To motivate me into using all of these (because it really is a crime that they're all sitting unused) I'm going to be testing them all out for the series to review them, and let you know what I think and which one I like best! That way I'll be using up my stash so that my money isn't being wasted, and I can hopefully help you guys out with the reviews as well! I actually find that reviewing things for Porcelain Eleanor really makes me think carefully about the product and what it's doing for me, whether I can see the effects etc, and it actually helps me to decide whether or not I think it's any good, because I have to pay attention to it for the review!

Do you have lots of foundations? Which are your favourites? (I like excuses to buy more makeup!!) Do let me know in the comments which ones you'd like me to review and I'll try to make those a priority!
So I am FINALLY getting around to writing my first Shoes on a Shoestring post! I announced that I would be starting this series ages ago (around Christmas!!) and I had such a positive response - see the post explaining what I'm talking about here - unfortunately I've only just got around to starting it, because uni seems to be very good at getting in the way of everything!! Anyway, without further ado, here is my first feature:

So these are brogue style military boots in tan (Primark shoes don't come with descriptions or names, booo!! So I've had to come up with something myself... sorry!) You can find them in Primark for £15, which isn't too bad! Their true colour is showing up best in the last picture, camera flash does strange things to tan and turns it orange! They're good for the cold season at the moment, we all know it's not getting any warmer in the UK for a good couple of months, and good for protecting your feet from the British rain! I thought these were a really cute take on the military boot as well, there's something slightly girlie about the brogue-style patterning on them, and I love the tartan patterned insides, which although you can't see when you're wearing them, it's still nice to know that the insides of your shoes are on trend.. ;)

Here is an outfit that I wore these with a few weeks ago, and I'd just like to point out for my own peace of mind, that I HAVE had my hair cut since these pictures were taken, as you can see, it had got waay too long! But I think these shoes are quite versatile, I like them best with skirts, but they look nice with more flowy dresses and shorts, and probably leggings too! And I'm sorry for the poor quality pictures, it was night when I took them and I didn't have very much room either, my sister was crouched on the floor pushed up against the wall taking them for me... thanks Rach!!

What do you think of these shoes? How would you wear them?

I went a little bit crazy on the above the knuckle rings, but they're not something you tend to come across on the highstreet, and I thought their prices were really quite reasonable! I'm also just a bit of a ring maniac/hoarder in general, so I don't tend to be able to stop myself! If anyone is interested in my ashamedly large ring collection then let me know and I'll see what I can do!

I'd definitely recommend having a look on the Dixi site, they're a really cool indie/hipster sort of brand, and definitely check out their facebook for some of their offers, it might well convince you to put in an order too!
What is your favourite thing that I got? Have you ever got anything from Dixi?
So I've never done an empties post before, mainly because I've been waiting to save up enough to do a post on it, but also because I seem to get through all of my products very very slowly haha! Anyway, here are the things that I've used up!

Aussie Luscious Long Shampoo and Conditioner
I always but Aussie shampoo when it's on 3for2 in boots and get 2 shampoos with one conditioner because I get through my shampoo twice as fast as my conditioner, I do quite like this one, it smells nice (I feel like it's almost a bit of a bubblegummy smell? Not too sweet at all though, I think it's the eucalyptus..) and helps keep my hair shiny and works well enough for keeping my long hair healthy, which is a tough job! However I have been using another Aussie shampoo recently that I really like... watch this space...
Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Shampoo for Dry Hair
This was actually a sample I got for free with one of my bodyshop online orders a while ago, I really liked that they let you choose which shampoo you wanted a sample of too! This smelled so nice, and Matt even commented on liking the smell!! It is like a mix of coconut and banana, very tropical and lovely! The shampoo is nice enough, but again, nothing to get too excited about, and I did find that it didn't lather too well, I think this might be because it's silicone, sulphate and paraben free. That is something that I prefer in shampoos, because it mean there aren't any chemical nasties in there, but for me, it should still lather well, otherwise I have to use way more than usual!
Naked Smooth Marshmallow & Aloe Silky Shampoo
This was another shampoo without sulphates or parabens, and as far as I can see no silicones (but I'm not an expert) I really liked the unusual ingredients in this, like the marshmallow! I was hoping it would smell like marshmallow because I thought that's be pretty unique! It didn't, BUT it smelled like mandarin oranges, it was absolutely gorgeous! I'm still using the jojoba conditioner that goes with this, it's lasting forever! I did like both of these, nothing amazing, but not really any complaints either!

So those are the haircare products I've finished up! I probably get through these the quickest because I use them so often, and so much of them. I find it so hard to use up makeup, probably because I'm always flitting between different products! I do think they take longer in general to use though, I suppose that's a good thing money-wise!

What have you been using up recently?
So, I've been a bit naughty. That's right, I've been doing some MORE shopping, it never seems to end! I'm definitely going to try and curb my spending addiction in the coming months... But for now, I'll show you what I've got!

So E.L.F have had a couple of offers on recently, there was a 3for2 a few weeks ago, and a 48% off code last week, what with that and all their new releases I had to put in a few orders!
I need to apologise for the pictures in advance, I've been trying to take as many in natural light as I can, but usually I get home from uni only after it gets dark, so it's been a bit tricky recently and my camera isn't great with unnatural lighting as you'll be able to tell!
toiletries bag - primark

So those are all the things I got! I thought I'd include this little makeup/toiletries bag at the end, that I bought from Primark on Monday, I think it's so cute!! It's actually pretty big and you can probably fit quite a bit of stuff in there, and for only £3 is was a steal! I'm really looking forward to trying everything out, as they've all just been released they're completely new products to me! Watch this space for reviews on everything...

Have you got any of e.l.f's new collection? What do you think of it?
So quite a while ago now, I did a blog post about my favourite Autumn nail polish colours. And I thought that it was about time that I did a NOTD featuring one! Now my NOTDs don't tend to be too adventurous, I definitely don't have time to experiment with nail art, what between going to uni, all the uni work I have to do, working 2 jobs AND blogging! So when I'm lucky enough to have enough spare time to paint my nails in, I tend to only have enough time for a plain block colour. But I quite like just plain painted nails, so I don't mind!
Anyway! Enough of that! Barry M's Black Red is absolutely hands down my favourite colour polish (with their navy polish coming in a close second), it's the perfect colour for the colder months, being a burgundy tone. And this sort of shade really does it for me, I'm not a huge fan of the brighter bolder berry colours that so many others favour, and I prefer my berry tones more on the dark side, with an almost vampy and gothic element to them, they just feel so much deeper and more interesting to me.. Not to mention I think they look SO cool, and add a bit more grunge (which I really like) than the brighter berry colours.

And then I would normally go in with another coat after that, ending up with this! I can't say it enough how much I love this colour! Like I said, it's perfect and so "in" around this time of year, but I really like to wear this in the summer too, because I feel like it adds something more than a typical black to the sort of grunge vibe I often tend to go for. But I think this can work with so many styles, wear it with an evening dress and it can look really expensive and classy. It's such a chameleon when it comes to being styled, and I would highly , highly recommend it!

I wore this with the Sally Hansen Diamond Shine and my nails were suuuuper shiny and they didn't chip for quite a few days! I love the fact that you can get the sort of effect with this polish where it's a smooth colour but there's an almost transparent quality to it, or you can build it up in a coat or two to be completely opaque. As you can tell, I can't rave enough about this, it's definitely my most used colour (when I get the time to paint my nails haha) and I would buy it again and again. I'd definitely recommend anyone to go out and buy this shade, Barry M nail polishes are super cheap at only £2.99 and are currently on 3for2 offer in boots.

What do you think of this colour? Let me know if there are any of the other Autumn Polishes you would like to see in a NOTD/review like this!
